The quality is often very good, and the price is much lower than the OEM. Lexmark, Epson, and Brother are all quite accomodating, when it comes to using compatibles. However, I haven't has as much luck with HP, due to their efforts to block compatibles. With Canon, I haven't had compatibility issues, but - unfortunately - I just haven't found the compatible Canon cartridges to be of satisfactory quality. They tend to not yield as much, clog regularly, and the pigments aren't true - resulting in unpredictable output, between cartridges. As such, I stick to the OEM Canon cartridges. Honestly, though, I don't really mind. Canon inkjet printers often have great quality output, and the consistency of their cartridges are part of that success.
